NOL monitoring

NOL® Technology is a noninvasive system that quantifies the physiological response to pain (nociception) in anesthetized patients, enabling personalized analgesia. It’s more precise than traditional vital signs, with demonstrated reductions in postoperative pain, opioid use, and hypotensive events.

Description

The Nociception Level Index® (NOL®) monitor offers an advanced solution for pain management during surgery and in critical care settings:

It holds both CE marking and FDA approval, being the only multiparameter nociception device certified for anesthetized surgical patients under both regulatory regimes.

The PMD-200™ device integrates multiple physiological signals from sensors (such as photoplethysmography, skin conductance, peripheral temperature, accelerometry), applies AI algorithms to detect patterns related to nociceptive stimuli, and presents results on a scale from 0 (no nociception) to 100 (extreme nociceptive response).

Proven benefits include: up to 33 % reduction in reported postoperative pain, about 30 % lower intraoperative opioid consumption, and around 80 % fewer intraoperative hypotensive events.

Helps clinicians achieve optimal analgesia—enough to prevent pain, without overmedication—thus minimizing risks such as respiratory depression, nausea, and prolonged recovery, and enhancing overall patient outcomes and safety.
